Bluebook citation generator and document cite-checker

Every citation in your brief, checked against the Bluebook.

Supra generates Bluebook citations from any source and cite-checks entire briefs and law review articles. It reads your document in order—so every id. and supra is checked against what you actually cited before—and every finding shows what was wrong, what it should be, and the rule that says so.

The Citation Errors You Miss.

The errors that survive a careful read.

The first citation is rarely the problem. The harder errors occur later, when one citation depends on another: an Id. that follows a string cite, a supra that points to the wrong footnote, or a full case citation that should have been shortened. Those errors cannot be resolved by looking at a citation in isolation. Supra checks citations in sequence, using the citations that precede them to determine what each citation should be. It follows the Bluebook the way a careful cite-checker should: citation by citation, from the beginning of the document to the end.

What it checks

Built for When Every Minute Matters.

Whether you’re a paralegal, litigator, or law student, Supra is built for those moments when the filing deadline is fast approaching.

Cite-check an entire brief

Upload a motion, brief, or memo. Every citation is checked—full cites and short forms, in the order they appear.

Catch id. and supra mistakes

Short forms depend on what you cited before. Supra tracks the sequence across the whole document and flags citations that point to the wrong authority.

Law review mode

Footnote-aware checking for journal work—including “supra note 12” references that point to the wrong footnote.

Table of Authorities in one click

Every document check produces a grouped, alphabetized Table of Authorities, with short forms resolved to their full citations.

Generate a citation from any source

PDF, image, URL, or pasted text in; a Bluebook-formatted citation out—verified before you see it.

Your citation Verified

Marbury v. Madison, 5 U.S. (1 Cranch) 137, 177 (1803).

Every Correction Cites the Rule.

Not just “wrong”: what was wrong, what it should be, and the rule that applies—so you can verify the fix yourself in seconds.

Accuracy

What Supra doesn't do

Supra checks citation form and consistency. It does not tell you whether an authority is still good law—that is Shepard's and KeyCite territory—and it does not yet verify that a quotation or pincite matches the source.

Who it's for

One tool, three deadlines.

Litigation—associates and brief writers

The night before filing, the ToA is still a to-do and the short forms haven't been re-checked since the last round of edits. Run the whole brief, fix what's flagged, paste the Table of Authorities.

Brief mode · Table of Authorities · Pro for weekly filers

Law review—editors and cite-checkers

Hundreds of footnotes, dozens of “supra note” references, and a source-check deadline. Law review mode tracks citations by footnote and confirms every supra points where it should.

Law review mode · footnote-aware · Pro + extra credits for the cite-check cycle

Firms and paralegals

Consistent Bluebook form across every filing, from every author, without a second reader on each one. Every correction cites the rule, so review is fast and defensible.

FAQ

Common questions.

What is a credit?
One credit is one citation—generated or checked. A document check costs one credit per citation Supra finds in it, and the exact count is shown for free before the check runs.
Do credits expire?
Purchased credits never expire. They're an add-on to a Pro or Student plan: if your plan ends, they're kept and unlock when you subscribe again. Monthly plan credits roll over up to three months' worth.
Can I try it on a real brief before paying?
Yes. Every account starts with 10 free credits, and the citation count and cost for any document are free—so you can see exactly what a full check would cost before spending anything.
What's the difference between brief mode and law review mode?
Brief mode checks citations the way they appear in court filings and memos. Law review mode is footnote-aware: it tracks citations by footnote and confirms every “supra note” reference points to the right one.
How does Supra check a citation?
Deterministic validators built from the Bluebook's tables run first; then multiple independent AI verification passes review what tables can't express, and anything that fails is repaired and re-verified. Every finding shows the rule it applied, and every report records the rules version it was checked against.
Does Supra check whether my cases are still good law?
No. Supra checks citation form and consistency. It does not replace Shepard's or KeyCite, and it does not yet verify that quotations or pincites match the source.
What file types can I upload?
Single citations: PDF, image, URL, or pasted text. Document checks: Word (DOCX), PDF, or pasted text.
